Extraction of date palm juice has begun different parts of Narayanganj as the winter hits the country. Date palm juice is being extracted mostly in Rupganj, Araihazar and Sonargaon upazilas of the district where people have planted date, coconut, mangoes and other seasonal fruit trees in addition to cultivating crops.
Joynul Mia, resident of Boruna village of Rupganj upazila, a date juice extractor, told the Bangladesh Post there are a huge demand of date juice during the winter and demand of jaggery produced from date juice throughout the year.
But date trees are minimum in Nayrayanganj as People cut down date trees daily. If it continues, they will be out of job during the winter, he added. During the winter, date juice, jaggery made from it and variety of cakes are very popular across Bangladesh.
