The field-level data collection for the Agriculture Census-2019 begins on Sunday across the country which will continue till June 20.
During the census, the enumerators will collect data on food grains, fisheries and livestock, size of the agriculture households, land use, size of the cultivated land, number of cattle and poultry, agricultural machineries, food security, fisheries and forests in the urban and rural areas across the country, said an official at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
In Netrakona, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md. Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP, formally inaugurated the Data Collection for Agriculture Census-2019 in Netrakona at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office. DC of Netrakona M Mayeenul Islam presided over the function while it was attended, among others, by Deputy Director of Statistics Department Shahabuddin Sarker, Statistics Officer Musarraf Husain, Assistant Statistics Officer Almaj Uddin, zonal officer Razaul Karim and Pulak Kumar Biswas.
A colourful rally was brought out in the district town. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Netrakona M Mayeenul Islam led the rally. In Rangpur, officials at a discussion stressed on conducting the Agriculture Census-2019 properly to develop agriculture sector, make farm activities more profitable and speed up uplift to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), reports BSS.
They made the observation at a pre-rally brief discussion held on the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises in the city on the occasion of launching the sixth Agriculture Census-2019. Under management of the Statistics and Information Management Division of Ministry of Planning, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will conduct the census as per the Agriculture Reform guidelines of the World Food Organisation from June 9 to 20.
Later, led by Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam, Divisional Office of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) brought out the rally on the city streets with participation of officials and employees, students, youths and civil society members. With Divisional Joint Director of BBS Amjad Hossain in the chair, the Divisional Commissioner addressed the rally as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, District Coordinators of the Agriculture Census-2019 of BBS Shafikul Islam and Mehnaz Tabassum and its Sadar Upazila Census Coordinator Swattik Al Maruf also spoke. Amjad Hossain said BBS enumerators will collect data on food grains, fisheries, livestock, agriculture households, land use, cultivated land, cattle, poultry, agricultural machineries, food security, fisheries and forests across the country during the census.
“The collected data will be used as standard information for determining development strategy of the agricultural sector through formulating and implementing multiple development plans by the government,” he said. The chief guest called upon the enumerators as well as officials and employees of BBS to correctly collect the necessary information both in urban and rural areas to make the Agriculture Census-2019 successful for greater national interests.
Later, the BBS enumerators formally launched the Agriculture Census-2019 in the district by collecting data from Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib at his official residence.
