The Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh has seen significant improvement over the last month. The country registered only two deaths in 24 hours till 8am Monday. This is the lowest daily Covid deaths since May 5 last year.
Experts praised the timely and impactful measures taken by the government in achieving this feat and bringing the virus under control.
The government ensured mass vaccination, social awareness, corona dedicated hospital facility, telemedicine service, rapid corona test facility, social distancing and other health guidelines to curb the infections and deaths in the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the authorities concerned to vaccinate all the people in the country as soon as possible.
Prof Tahmina Shirin, director of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research IEDCR (IEDCR) told the Bangladesh Post, “People in the country went through a difficult phase but due to awareness and precautions it has been possible to bring the situation under control.”
“Infections have gone down because people have developed immunity against the virus. People have remained strong and maintained the government’s health guidelines,” she said.

Dr Be-Nazir Ahmed, former director of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), told the Bangladesh Post, “The mass-vaccination campaign along with other decisions such as halting flights from risky regions, promoting awareness etc. played a vital role in bringing the virus under control.”
The government has also successfully started vaccination campaigns for students, aged between 12 and 17, with Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid shots in Dhaka with plans to vaccinate 40,000 students per day.
Bangladesh began the administration of Covid-19 vaccines on 27th January in 2021 while mass vaccination started on 7th February in 2021.
The two deaths in 24 hours till 8am Monday, both women from Dhaka, took the total number of deaths to 27,870.
There were 214 new infections during this time, taking the total number of infected people to 1,569,753. The current positivity rate is 1.08pc, according to a press release issued by the DGHS on Monday.
The death rate stands at 1.78 percent in the country, as per DGHS press release. Around 19,734 samples were tested in 24 hours till 8am Monday.
Around 202 people recovered from the virus during this time. A total of 1,569,753 people have recovered so far from the virus. The recovery rate stands at 97.70 pc, according to the release.
As of Monday, 5,017,091 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 247,568,557 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
However, everyone has been strictly asked to wear mask and maintain social distancing and other health guidelines.
