Several areas of Hatia Upazila of Noakhali were inundated due to cyclone Remal and downpour on Monday.
According to Upazila administration, it has been raining with gusty wind since Sunday night. Besides, around 15 villages of Nijhum Dwip, Ghasiar Char, Dal Char, Horoni and Boyar Char areas under Hatia Upazila were flooded due to high tide. Moreover, 10 houses and a madrasa were damaged due to high tide at Nijhum Dwip union of the Upazila. A dam was partially damaged at Chatlar Ghat in Chairman Ghat area of Boyar Char.
Hatia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shuvashish Chakma said some low-lying areas were inundated due to high tide. However, it is not permanent. The situation is likely to be normal when the tide will go down. The locals of the area were shifted to cyclone shelter centers, he added.
