Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) has been severely affected by adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Remal.

This has caused significant disruptions, leading to the cancellation of 10 international flights and causing schedule disruptions for several other flights.

HSIA Executive Director Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam confirmed this to Bangladesh Post on Monday.

“Due to bad weather, 10 flights have been canceled so far. There has also been disruption of return and scheduled flights too,” said Kamrul Islam.

Among the canceled flights were Vistara Airlines services to Delhi and Mumbai, IndiGo flights to Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai, Air India flight to Delhi, and Jazeera Airways two flights to Kuwait. Additionally, China Eastern Airlines flights to Kunming and Malaysia Airlines flights to Kuala Lumpur experienced delays due to the adverse weather, Kamrul added further.

He further informed that a Novoair flight from Dhaka to Chattogram was forced to return to Dhaka after failing to land in Chattogram despite flying for two hours.

The disruption also led to passengers of three flights being transferred to different flights to reduce the impact of the cancellations and delays.

Due to Cyclone Remal, flight operations were stopped for around 17 hours at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. A total of 16 flights were canceled during the period. Of these, there were seven international flights and nine domestic flights.

Shah Amanat International Airport public relations officer Ibrahim Khalil informed that the flight operation was stopped from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm on Sunday. Later it was extended till 5 am on Monday.

Due to the disruption, Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-135 from Chattogram to Jeddah has been canceled. As a result, 317 pilgrims who were scheduled to travel to Jeddah from Chattogram have been redirected to Dhaka.
