Customs House Dhaka filed a case in connection with the missing of around 55.51 kilogrammes (KGs) of gold from secured customs warehouse at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Md Towhidul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Airport zone confirmed the matter.

He said unknown persons have been accused in the case.

Four officers and employees of Dhaka Customs House have been detained for interrogation.

Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, assistant revenue officer of the Dhaka Customs House filed the case on Sunday night.

Earlier on Sunday, the gold was reportedly stolen from the customs warehouse. According to Syed Mukaddes Hossain, deputy commissioner at Dhaka Customs House, the on-duty official left his station at night after ensuring that everything was in place. However, the next morning, on Friday, he went to the warehouse only to find a lock of the steel locker broken.

He informed the higher officials and a team that also included Syed Mukaddes went to the scene. After checking the inventory, the officials became reasonably assured that a burglary was committed.

The authority has also formed a five-member probe committee in this regard.

The warehouse is kept under constant CCTV surveillance as it is usually used to store seized supplies of smuggled and illegal gold, according to customs officials who themselves monitor the CCTV cameras and overall security protocols.
