Curtain falls on 13th edition of IIUSFF

The closing ceremony and award distribution ceremony of the 13th International Inter-University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) has been organised by the Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The award-giving ceremony held on Thursday September 30 at Star Cineplex, Bashundhara Shopping Complex on the capital. 

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister of Information and Communication Technology Ministry and Honourable Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, pro-vice chancellor of Dhaka University were present as the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Regarding the Ceremony State Minister Palak said, "I am very proud to announce that we have decided to set up a modern animation lab centre at the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University.’ 

He also said that 40 universities are going to have animation lab centres, already the set up and training centres is being arranged for thousands of youths. He also added, that all possible cooperation would be extended to set up a 'Zahir Raihan Student Film Lab' at the Dhaka University Film Society. 

The animation labs, are under the Dhaka University Film Society, which will provide an opportunity for young students and filmmakers to hone their skills in filmmaking.  He also spoke with UNHCR representatives about computer training for children in Rohingya refugee camps, he further added.

Honourable Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, pro-vice chancellor of Dhaka University said, ‘It is my expectation that our students will raise their voices against the persecution and persecution of refugees.’  Movies, pictures - these are very important.  Highlights history.  

We are proud that the students of our university are organizing such a big festival.  In the future, the Dhaka University administration will give more support to such an event of the Dhaka University Film Society.

In 2007, International Inter-University Short Film Festival initiated its journey with the motto ‘Take your camera, frame your dream’ to provide young and talented university-going filmmakers worldwide, a platform to showcase their talent. 

Over the years it has succeeded in creating a name of its own and working as a cross-cultural platform to portray the different styles and dimensions of young university-going filmmakers throughout the world.
