Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 803 sacks of current net wort Tk about Tk. 80 crore and 50 lakh from Muktarpur area under Panchasar union in Munshiganj. Members of the Coast Guard seized the current during a special drive on Wednesday. During the raid 8 hundred and 3 sacks of current net making yarns, bobbing and current nets materils were seized. The nets are almost 4 crore and 2 lakh meter long.The estimated total value of the seized current net is about Tk. 80 crores and 50 lakh.
Executive Officer of the Support Unit, Lt Commander M Sajjad Hossain, (X), BN and station commander Pagla Lt Asif, (X), BN along with 38 Coast Guard members, conducted the raid on 7 factories and houses on the opposite sides of the Panna Cinema Hall in Muktarpur Super Market area. Mr. Zillur Rahman, Dhaka District Fisheries Officer and Nirbahi Magistrate Mr. Sihabul Arif were present during the operation.
Later, in the presence of local media personnel, the seized nets were burned and destroyed in a fire. During the raid, a total of 21 people were also fined Tk 1 lakh and 95 thousand. In addition to law and order control and public safety in areas under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, the coast guards will continue their operation to protect piracy, deforestation, robbery and the use of illegal fishing nets.
