Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has directed to start activities to control Culex mosquitoes from Sunday.
After reviewing the overall situation of mosquitoes, the DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh directed all concerned to implement necessary measures to control Culex mosquitoes from November 1. He made the decision in a meeting at the Buriganga Hall of Nagar Bhaban on Sunday afternoon. "Thanks to the sincere cooperation and activities of all, eradication of Aedes mosquito larvae, large-scale combing operations and increased public awareness through mobile courts, we have been able to quickly control the outbreak of dengue in the South of Dhaka," he said.
However, the mayor said the winter season has begun so DSCC has to start the activities from Monday to save the people of Dhaka from the infestation of Culex mosquitoes.
Confirming that there is adequate stock of pesticides, necessary manpower and equipment, Sheikh Taposh said, "We have not only increased the manpower in mosquito control activities but also procured necessary vehicles and equipment. There is adequate stock of pesticides.”
He added that necessary training to mosquito workers and supervisors have been provided. In addition, 25 newly purchased wheel-barrow machines are being added to the programme. The DSCC is hopeful that this will make the Culex mosquito control more successful.
Last week, mosquito workers and supervisors in ten areas of DSCC were trained in mosquito control activities. From Sunday, the Culex mosquito control programme will be conducted through a total of 37 machines including the previous 12 wheel-barrow machines. In addition, two new fogger machines per ward will be added to the Culex control programme. DSCC Chief Executive Officer Farid Ahmed, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir among other health and regional executive officers were present at the meeting.
