CUB observes National Mourning Day

Canadian University of Bangladesh observed ‘National Mourning Day’ marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Sunday at the auditorium of the university. A seminar on “Bangabandhu’s Life-long Aspiration: Egalitarian Development of Bangladesh” was arranged to observe the day. 

Dr Atiur Rahman, Prof Emeritus and Honorary Adviser of Board of Trustees of Canadian University of Bangladesh and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present as the chief guest. Professor Mohammed A Arafat, Chief Advisor of Board of Trustees of Canadian University of Bangladesh was present as special guest. The program was chaired by Professor Dr Nazrul Islam, Vice Chancellor (Acting) and Adviser to the Board of Trustees of Canadian University of Bangladesh. 

In his speech, Prof Dr Atiur Rahman said that Bangabandhu dreamt of a prosperous Bangladesh which is free from all kinds of exploitation and oppression in order to attain people's economic emancipation. His dream was inspired by his enduring love for people, affection for Banglees and care for Bangalee society free from all kinds of discrimination. He also mentioned that Bangladesh already transformed into a lower middle income country and upgraded from a least developed country to a developing one. 

Sheikh Mozaffar Hossain delivered a welcome speech on the occasion. Among others, Md Latiful Khabir, Registrar (Acting), Associate Professor SM Arifuzzaman, Head of the Department of Business Administration, Dr Mamoon Al Bashir, Director of International Affairs and MBA/EMBA Programs, Dr Shahrukh Adnan Khan, Dean of School of Science and Engineering, Dr Nurul Islam Bablul, Head of the Department of Film and Television were present at the programme. Students and officials of Canadian University of Bangladesh attended the seminar.
