The meeting was conducted by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jasimuddin of the Institute. CU Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey and Director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Jarin Akhtar spoke on the occasion.
CU VC Dr. Shirin Akhtar said, forest is the best friend of the environment. There is no substitute for tree planting in tackling the effects of climate change. Everyone should come forward to plant fruit, forest and medicinal plants in a planned manner around the house and in the fallow land. If a tree needs to be cut down, three saplings have to be planted. Tree planting needs to be transformed into a social movement to build a green-rich and liveable world for future generations.
The day-long program included discussions, demonstrations, and tree planting, in collaboration with the CU Forestry and Environmental Sciences and USAID-funded USAID Community Partnership to Strengthening Sustainable Development (Compass) programs.
