Chattogram Divisional Health Director Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir said, “There are 7,800 prisoners in Chattogram Central Jail. We cannot be safe without them. Under the direction of the government, work has started to bring each of them under the Covid-19 vaccine.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a program on immunization of inmates at Chattogram Central Jail on Thursday morning.
On the first day from morning, Pfizer vaccine was given to 800 prisoners by writing their name, address and family's mobile number on the specified card.
Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir said, “All the prisoners who have received the first dose of vaccine from the jail will be given the second dose of the vaccine there.
Prisoners who are released on bail after receiving the first dose of the vaccine will be able to receive the second dose subject to card display from outside.
Those who come to the jail in a new way after being convicted of various crimes will also be brought under the vaccine.”
Prisoner Nurul Alam thanked the health department at the time and said, "I have not been able to get the Covid vaccine for so long because I am in jail. With the sincerity of the health department, I was able to get the vaccine in a very beautiful environment. I feel blessed in this.”

Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Elias Chowdhury said, “Even though the backward communities including the Hijra and Vedic communities do not have national identity cards, they are the people of our society. They are not able to register the vaccine through security apps. We cannot be safe without them.”
Chattogram District Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Elias Chowdhury presided over the function. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Chief Health Officer Dr Selim Akhter Chowdhury inaugurated the Covid-19 vaccine. Special guests were DIG (Prisons) AKM Fazlul Haque, Senior Jail Super Shafiqul Islam Khan of Chittagong Central Jail and Sujan Barua, District Health Supervisor of Civil Surgeon's Office.
