Chattogram Port, Dhaka-Chattogram highway has become the lifeline of the country’s economy, speakers at a view exchange meeting opined on Thursday.
They said the overall economy, industrial production and import-export activities of the country became severely affected due to the anarchy and turbulent situation, created all over the country following the movement took place last week.
The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the meeting to exchange views with the public representatives, government officials and businesses at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the World Trade Center.
MA Latif, Member of the Parliament for Chattogram-11 constituency attended the meeting as the chief guest.
While addressing, he said, Deep Sea Port is being built in the country, investment-friendly environment and infrastructure facilities are also being created under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Akhter Hossain and General Secretary Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu, Zaheer Uddin Ahmed on behalf of Cement Manufacturers Association, Almas Shimul of GPH Ispat, Bangladesh Shopkeepers Association Chattogram Metropolitan President Salamat Ali and Chattogram District President Saleh Ahmed Suleiman, Prime Mover Owners Association General Secretary Md. Hossain and Md. Sufiur Rahman Tipu of Inter-District Freight Transport Company Truck and Covered Van Owners Association were spoke. Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam said that the recent incidences unprecedented in the history of the country. Those who did not see the dream of today’s modern and prosperous Bangladesh in 2009 have been rioting in various people-friendly establishments of the country.
He said that Chattogram is very important for the country’s economy because there is the Chattogram port and the famous Dhaka-Chattogram highway, the lifeline of the country’s economy. That’s why we are working with all the stakeholders so that no sabotage may take place in Chattogram in future.
CMP Commissioner Saiful Islam said the law and order forces are working hard to keep the transportation of goods smooth from Chattogram to other parts of the country. Omar Hajjaj, President of the Chamber, said that the state resources as well as the private sector have been badly damaged during the country-wide anarchy and vandalism which is really irreparable.
