Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam  has said that Chittagong port is the gateway to the economy of Bangladesh, because this sea port is the heart of business.  A separate budget is prepared for Chittagong and various other projects are taken up.  Several more seaports are being built to make Bangladesh a developed nation and this construction process is in line with the needs of today's economy, but the importance of Chittagong will always remain.  Chittagong has immense importance in building Smart Bangladesh.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the meeting on the occasion of 3 years anniversary of the sixth elected council of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) at the Kings of Chittagong Community Center in the city on Saturday morning.

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury presided over the meeting.  Former Mayor Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Member of Parliament MA Latif, Mohiuddin Bachchu, Abdus Salam, Indian High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan spoke on the occasion.  CCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Touhidul Islam delivered the welcome speech.  At this time, leaders of Chittagong North-South Awami League, panel mayor, upazila chairman and dignitaries were present. At the beginning of the program, information on infrastructure development during the current mayor's tenure was presented through a multimedia projector in front of the chief guest.

The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives said that apart from the City Corporation, a project worth Tk 4000 crore has been approved for the Chittagong division.  Moreover, various projects have been undertaken to protect Chittagong from various climate risks and the local government institutions have to play a major role in implementing them.

The minister said that the local government and other government departments should work responsibly.  If you want to develop, you have to get money from local sources.  If you can convince the common people by providing services like drains or canals made free of garbage and beautiful flowers planted there then people will want to deposit revenue.

If the Chittagong City Corporation and the local government work together, the progress of the work will increase.
