Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has sought Singapore's assistance in the development of Chattogram city in the education, health and tourism sectors. He was addressing a view exchange meeting with the High Commissioner of Singapore, Derek LOH at the Tigerpass CCC office on Sunday morning.

CCC Mayor said, Chattogram City Corporation is running 82 educational institutions and 56 health complexes for citizen services.  These institutions can help the people of Chattogram by providing technical assistance, training and technology to increase their capacity.

“Singapore can invest in the development of tourism potential by exploiting the natural beauty of Chattogram surrounded by rivers, seas and mountains”, Mayor added.

Singaporean High Commissioner Derek LOH said that Singapore wants to play a positive role in the development of Bangladesh's infrastructure, including the Bay-terminal.  Chattogram can benefit financially by utilizing Singapore's experience due to Singapore's geographical proximity to the port city.  Besides importing food from Bangladesh, Singapore wants to help in various sectors.

He said, "Singapore has a soft spot for Bangladesh.  Because Bangladeshi workers are hardworking and honest, Singapore has employed a large number of Bangladeshis in various sectors and will provide more in the future. Under the cooperation programs that Singapore runs in various countries, Chattogram's education, health and tourism sectors are expanding.  Singapore will consider how to assist.”

CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, Mayor's Private Secretary Abul Hashem, Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Director Mitchell Lee, Singapore High Commission's Charge d'Affaires Sheela Pillai and Singapore delegation participated in the meeting.
