Chittagong Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abul Basar Md Fakhruzzaman has warned of imprisonment if the mobile court does not work to control the market of daily commodities.
The DC was addressing the district law and order committee meeting held at the conference room of Chittagong Circuit House on Tuesday morning.
He said, unscrupulous businessmen have increased the prices of daily necessities in view of Ramadan. As part of market monitoring to keep prices of products stable, the district administration has first warned the traders by going to the wholesale markets. Directorate of Consumer Protection and BSTI are working on it.
The DC said that even after giving repeated instructions to hang the purchase and sale prices of products in all business establishments, it is being disobeyed. Some big companies have been fined two days ago. This time, if not fined, dishonest businessmen will be jailed.
The Deputy Commissioner also believes that some traders have destabilized the market by increasing the prices of daily essential products illegally and artificial crisis. Chittagong District Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Shafiullah, representative of Civil Surgeon Office Dr. Mohammad Nawshad Khan and representatives of various government agencies addressed the meeting.
