Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, DC, Chattogram has obtained PhD. He received his PhD in Economics from the Arndt Corden Department of Economics of Australian National University.

Fakhruzzaman, an officer of the 24th BCS administration cadre and a former student of Chittagong University, had his thesis on 'Industrial Upgrading in the Apparel Value Chain: Evidence from Bangladesh'.
Deputy Commissioner Fakhruzzaman said, after nearly 5 years of pursuit, I got the desired result. In this research, I have passed through many difficulties. Today's achievements can't be interpreted as happiness. Continuing research along with work is a challenge.
When asked what other challenges he faced, the Deputy Commissioner said, first of all, the session was on the global pandemic Covid. I had to learn a lot of programming due to Covid. If not for Covid, maybe I would have got someone's help. But no one was in a position to help. I had to do everything myself.
Secondly, Australia has a policy of education and research. That is to add new knowledge to the state of knowledge or to challenge any existing knowledge. Australian universities generally do not approve degrees if none of these are met.
In response to the question whether you were in any uncertainty during the research, he said, I was in uncertainty till I received the confirmation letter. If the three supervisors, externals, are not satisfied with the thesis, my PhD degree will not be awarded. Only I know how hard I have worked in the last five years. Even so, I submitted the paper, the professors said - do it this way, not this way. I did as instructed. Gave instructions again. Thus, the time, labour and uncertainty that I had spent all turned into happiness with a congratulatory message from the university registrar.
