Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury has found various irregularities, including the absence of physicians and other staff, at Chandanaish and Anwara Upazila Health Complexes in the district.
The civil surgeon visited the health complexes of Anwara and Chandanaish upazilas on Thursday afternoon and found the irregularities. Earlier on Tuesday, he visited Sitakunda and Mirsharai Upazilas Health Complex. Upazila health and family welfare officials were present during his visit.
Local representatives and residents have long been complaining of irregular attendance of doctors and other hospital staff and different anomalies at Chandanaish Upazila Health Complex and Anwara Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram.
During the inspection, the civil surgeon found various irregularities, including unclean emergency department, damaged sucker machine, air-conditioned machine not functional in eye vision centre, no window screen in NCD corner and doctors providing service without aprons--at the Chandanaish Hospital.
Civil Surgeon Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury said 14 medical officers, three senior staff nurses and two employees were absent from the workplace during the inspection of Chandanaish Upazila Health Complex. He has also found late attendance (biometric attendance) of all staff at work for the last nine days. On the other hand, although there is a provision to complete the tender according to the PPR (public procurement rule), they have completed the tender process through lottery without considering the government regulations.
Besides, 11 medical officers, 10 senior staff nurses, statistician, sanitary inspector, accountant, one office assistant, emergency attendant and two ward boys were absent from work without permission at Anwara Upazila Health Complex during his visit. A show cause notice has been issued to them.
