Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, while referring to the Chattogram- 8 constituency by-election, as well as those to the two city corporations in Dhaka, has said they will be held fairly, with voting conducted through Electronic Voting Machine, EVMs, in both cases.
After meeting with officials at the Chattogram Regional Election Office on Wednesday afternoon, he said to journalists, "We believe that there will be fair elections, competitive and competitive elections and all parties will participate." Nurul Huda also talked about various issues including NID fraud, and preparation for by-elections.
Responding to a question from journalists, he said, "We will vote in the EVM." We have seen that by electing through EVMs, voters will be able to exercise their voting right properly.” For the death of Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, JSD leader Main Uddin Khan Badal, by-elections will be held on January 5, 2020 in Chattogram-8 constituency. The Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections will be held on January 30, 2020.
Referring to the meeting of officials of EC Chattogram office on the by-elections, Nurul Huda said, "They (officials) said preparations are good. The election will be competitive. So far, the behavior of the supporters of candidates has not gone unaddressed. They are hopeful to be able to carry out the election beautifully.
Eight persons of EC will be tried in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar soon for giving national identity card to Rohingyas, he said “a Chinese national who had taken NID with false information was also identified in Feni district.
Regarding the possible date for the Chattogram City Corporation elections, Nurul Huda said that April is the month of Ramadan, along with the SSC exam. If the month of March is free, it can be suitable. The decision has to be taken at a meeting of Election Commissioners, he added.
