Crystal meth has been recovered from Chittagong again. Police have arrested two people carrying the drug, also known as ice.
Two persons were arrested with 185 grams of ice in a raid in Khaja Road area of Chandgaon Police Station on Tuesday night.
The arrested are Hamid Hossain (28) and Md. Faruq (38). Hamid's home is in the middle Hnila village of Hnila union of Teknaf police station in Cox's Bazar district. Faruq's home is in Chadeknagar village of Islampur union in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram.
Chandgaon Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Moinur Rahman said 100 grams of ice was found in Hamid's possession and 85 grams in Faruq's possession after arresting two persons on the basis of secret information. They said that the ice was collected from Cox's Bazar and brought to Chattogram city. A case has been filed against them under the Narcotics Act.
According to the report of the Chattogram Divisional Intelligence Office of the Narcotics Control Department, parallel to the banned drug year, efforts are being made to create another dangerous drug Crystal Meth or Ice market in Bangladesh. Myanmar's separatist and international network terrorist group has been trying to create this market for the last four years through the Yaba Godfathers of Bangladesh.
Crystal meth is being stockpiled in Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar and is being distributed in different parts of the country. Myanmar's border guards and law enforcement are assisting in the entry of crystal meth in Bangladesh.
The first crystal meth was caught in Bangladesh on 26 February 2019 in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The first shipment of crystal meth was seized in Chattogram on 24 February 2021.
