The emotion and stubbornness of a kid know no limit. The desire of the tender age does not understand the ability or practicality. The craze of getting a smart mobile handset turned pathetic as a 10-year-old boy has committed suicide at Guchcha village under Mulgram union of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna on Monday as his family could not buy the gadget for him.
The ill-fated boy was identified as Antor, 10, son of Abu Sayeed, resident of the area.
Locals and police sources said that Antor and his brother were living with his grandmother (Julekha) in Chatmohar as his parents work at readymade garment factories in Dhaka. Antor’s grandmother has been living hand to mouth. She barely can manage foods for self and her two grandchildren.
“Antor demanded a smart mobile handset from his grandmother. It was a daydream for the woman. But, Antor was too young to understand the situation. He again urged his grandmother to buy the gadget. She could not see eye to eye of poor Antor,” they added.
At one stage, Julekha wanted to get rid of Antor’s stubbornness so she went to workplace with her another grandchild refusing his demand.
According to locals, the sentiment of Antor made him crazy. He was too young and emotional to act as a smart cookie. He committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of their room.
On information, police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the body. The body was sent to Pabna morgue for autopsy.
Confirming the matter to the media, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Chatmohar Police Station Hasan Bashir said, “It has been primarily known that the boy has taken his own life over a family feud.”
