The government will launch a massive drive across the country to hunt down the miscreants soon in a bid to improve the country’s law and order situation.

Sources said that the law and order situation of the country slightly deteriorated after some notorious criminals were released on bail soon after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government.

The top-listed criminals have started flexing their muscles in their respective areas to establish supremacy. As a result, incidents of violence, extortion and robbery are on the rise, they said.

Besides, the country experienced some incidents of lynching, creating a sense of security among the people.

Insiders of Ain o Salish Kendra, a human rights organization, say that at least 49 people were lynched in the past two months.

Some 28 people were killed in mob lynching in September and 21 others were lynched in August this year, they said.

Recently, a horrifying 20-second video, showing a young man tied between two poles and being beaten to death by assailants singing, has gone viral on social media, triggering public wrath across the country.

The act of brutality, which took place on August 14, surfaced on Facebook on September 21.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, 24.

In the video, the young man, tied up beneath an overpass, is seen being attacked by a group of youths and singing around him. The location of the assault was confirmed as an area near Gate No 2 of Akhtaruzzaman Flyover in Chattogram.

On Friday, at least five people were injured in an attack during a snatching attempt at the behind of a Puja mandap at Tanti Bazar area of the capital.

“We will launch a massive drive against muggers, extortionists and drug lords after the Durga Puja festival,” Inspector General of

Police Mainul Islam told reporters on Saturday after visiting Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission in the capital.

The Police chief said that they want to resist any slide in law and order.

“None will get the scope to escape punishment after committing any crime in the country. The culprit, whoever he/she is, will not be spared,” he said.

Responding to a question about the law and order situation, he said that whoever is found guilty will be brought under the book.

“None will be spared due to political identity,” he added.

The IGP also said that special drives would be run to restore traffic management.

Recently, Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Muhammad Motahar Hussain said that at least 43 high-profile criminals and militants walked out of jail on bail after the fall of Hasina-led government on August 5.

During the anti-discrimination student movement, some 17 jails came under attack leading to the escape of over 2,000 inmates. Of them, more than 900, including 70 militants, are still on the run.
