CPB leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono passes away

Valiant freed­om fighter Haider Akbar Khan Rono, adviser of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), passed away at a hospital in the capital on early Saturday. He was 82. 

Party sources said he breathed his last at 2:05am on Saturday at the Health and Hope Hospital.

He left behind his daughter and a host of relative and well-wishers to mourn his death.

From 1963 to 1965, he was elected general secretary of the 'East Pakistan Students Union'. In 1966, he directly got involved in the labor movement.

He has written many books on politics, economics, philosophy and even literature and science.

He was awarded the prestigious 'Bangla Academy Sahittya Purashkar' in 2022.

Rono was born on August 31, 1942 in Calcutta. He was involved with the Communist Party's activities in 1960 when he was a student of Physics Department at Dhaka University.
