Mayor of Cox's Bazar municipality and general secretary of Cox's Bazar district Awami League Mujibur Rahman, his wife and three other members of his family have been infected with coronavirus.
On the instructions of the Prime Minister, Mayor Mujibur Rahman and his wife are being treated at the corona isolation center of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Earlier, two councilors of the municipality were infected with coronavirus. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Biplob Barua is supervising the treatment of Mujibur Rahman.
Cox's Bazar District Awami League President Advocate Sirajul Mostafa said, “Cox's Bazar District Awami League General Secretary and Cox's Bazar Municipality Mayor Mujibur Rahman has been actively involved in various activities including awareness and relief activities in 12 wards of the municipality since the beginning of the corona crisis.
Mayor Mujibur Rahman was among the people day and night with the whole municipal council.” AB Siddique Khokon, personal assistant to Mayor Mujibur Rahman said that after Councilor Salauddin Setu of Ward 10 of Cox's Bazar Municipality and Mizanur Rahman of Ward 2 of Cox's Bazar Municipality tested positive on May 28, Mayor Mujibur Rahman and his wife Farhana Rahman gave samples to Cox's Bazar Medical on the same day.
On May 30, Mayor Mujibur Rahman, his wife Farhana Rahman, cousin Mohammad Azim, his wife Segufta Yasmin, another cousin Selim's wife Shamima Khan's report came positive.
Mayor Mujibur Rahman, who is in isolation from the college hospital said, “I have been working for the people under my father's direction since I started politics. I like to work for the people. I want to be healthy again and work for the welfare of the people. So I want blessings from everyone.”
Cox's Bazar Civil Surgeon Dr Mahbubur Rahman said 6565 tests were conducted in the lab set up at Cox's Bazar Medical College Hospital in two months, of which 715 tested positive.
