Abdul Monayem Khan died of corona first among the journalists of Cox’ Bazar. This Cox’s Bazar correspondent of The Daily Financial Express left for the land of no return on Sunday at about 2:30 pm at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Abdul Monayem Khan's brother Joynal Abedin confirmed the matter to the media. His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the journalist community in Cox's Bazar.
Abdul Monaim Khan, who is undergoing treatment in the red zone of Corona Ward of Chittagong Medical College, has been in critical condition since early morning on Sunday.
Later, with the help of Cox's Bazar-3 MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal and Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir, an ICU was arranged for him at the same hospital and he was taken to the ICU around 2 pm on Sunday. Soon after being taken to the ICU, Abdul Monaim Khan left the country without returning to the sea of mourning, said his long-time colleague and president of the Cox's Bazar Press Club, Mahbubur Rahman.
Senior journalist Abdul Monayem Khan, 54, is the eldest son of the late Kanungo Badiul Alam of Chhara Cemetery Road in Tarabania, Cox's Bazar.
Abdul Monayem Khan has been suffering from high fever since May 23. On May 26, he and his child, Mohaimen, a first-year student at Cox's Bazar City College, were given a sample test. On May 31, Abdul Monayem Khan and his son Mohaimen received a 'positive' report. On the night of June 1, Abdul Monayem Khan was admitted to Ukhia SARI Isolation and Treatment Center.
He was later taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital on June 3 on the advice of doctors.Abu Taher Chowdhury, president of the Cox's Bazar Journalists' Union and general secretary of the Cox's Bazar Press Club, said he did not return to Cox's Bazar to mourn the loss of his family. This is the first time a journalist has died in Cox's Bazar.
When the news of his death spread, the shadow of mourning fell on the journalist community.
Journalist Monayem Khan has worked in several media outlets including Bangladesh Betar, local newspaper, The Daily Star, The Daily Sun. Most recently, he worked as a Cox's Bazar correspondent for The Financial Express.Not only in Cox's Bazar but also in greater Chittagong, a journalist died of pity.
