Cox's Bazar district detective police have seized the largest consignment of drugs in Cox's Bazar so far. The OC of Cox's Bazar District DB Police has been given special award by the Chittagong Divisional Police for recovering this large consignment of drugs.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, the OC of the department, said that the responsibility has increased even more after receiving the award for the best drug rescuer of the department.
On February 9 this year, in a two-phase operation from Cox's Bazar, DB police arrested five people with 16 lakh 75 thousand yaba tablets and Tk 16 million 6 thousand in cash. The value of the recovered drugs is estimated at Tk 53 crore.
Neither the Bangladesh Police nor the RAB have been able to recover such a large consignment before. It may be mentioned that DB police recovered 14 lakh Yaba tablets from Chaufaldandi Ghat in Cox's Bazar on the way to Sagar on February 9 at noon. At that time, two people including Zahirul Islam Farooq were arrested. In the afternoon of the same day, according to Farooq's confession, another 3 lakh 75 thousand yaba and 1 crore 60 lakh 7 thousand rupees in cash were seized from his house in Nuniyachhara area. Five drug dealers, including Zahirul Islam Farooq, are in jail.
