Coronavirus infection has been increasing rapidly in the country. In the last one week, the number of infections has increased by 222 percent as compared to the previous week, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
DGHS Director (Disease Control) Dr Nazmul Islam unveiled the matter during the regular health bulletin regarding Covid-19 situation of the country on Sunday.
Bangladesh registered eight more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Sunday. The total number of deaths has reached to 28,144 with the latest figure.
The country recorded 5,222 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,617,711, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.
The current positivity rate stands 17.82 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 13.64 percent.
In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.74 percent in the country, added the release.
Among the eight deceased, five were males and three were females. Of them, four were from Dhaka, three from Chattogram and one was from Sylhet division.
A total of 29,305 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday.
Some 293 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,552,893 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 95.99 percent.
As of Sunday, 5,554,854 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 327,003,651 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
