The World Bank which has announced to assist countries grappling with the impacts of coronavirus will give $100 million to Bangladesh, the director general for health services say.
“This fund will be used for strengthening the facilities as part of preparedness and response plan,” Prof Abul Kalam Azad told Bangladesh Post, adding that they are working with all the stakeholders including donors to prepare the country face the new coronavirus. Bangladesh is so far free from the new virus which is named as COVID-19. But the country is at risk.
The World Bank on Tuesday announced an initial $12 billion in immediate funds to assist countries grappling with the health and economic impacts of the coronavirus outbreak. The virus first emerged in China’s Wuhan city in December has spread quickly to some 80 countries. World Bank President David Malpass said there were still ‘many unknowns’ about the fast-spreading virus and ‘much more’ aid might be required.
The Bangladesh government formed several committees for better preparedness. All donors have been involved in a 31-member committee led by Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
