A Dhaka court has imposed travel bans on five individuals, including former Awami League lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Golap and current Rajuk Chief Engineer Ujjwal Mallick, due to corruption allegations.
The other three affected by the bans are former deputy governor Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, and their daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury.
Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court issued the orders on Wednesday. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted three applications requesting these bans, according to an ACC official speaking to the media.
ACC Public Prosecutors Mahmud Hossain Jahangir and Mir Ahmed Ali Salam filed the petitions. The ACC stated that inquiries into the graft allegations are ongoing, making the
travel bans necessary to prevent the individuals from leaving the country.
Copies of the court orders have been sent to the Special Superintendent of Police (Immigration) for further action.
