A couple, who sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion from a leakage at their house in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj early Saturday, died at a hospital in the capital early Sunday.
They both succmbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery.
The deceased were Shamim Mia, 29, and his wife Jahanara, 25, hailed from Taraganj upazila in Rangpur district. They used to live in a rented house at Rupganj upazila in the district.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on Saturday around 3:00pm, the gas explosion took place at their house in Kauarchar Noyapara area under Golakandail union of the upazila.
According to Bhulta Police Outpost Inspector Mostafizur, local heard a loud explosion from the house early in the morning. Later, they rescued the injured and took them to a local private hospital.
The couple was later transferred to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery as their condition deteriorated, he said.
Police suspected that the fire might have originated following an explosion from a leakage in the gas, the police official added.
