The number of dengue patients this year has crossed 20,000. In the 24 hours till Sunday morning, three more people died of dengue and 211 new patients were hospitalized across the country.
Since January 20,129 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease since January of the year climbed to 76. Among the diseased, 71 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.
As per DGHS, among the new patients, 164 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in while the remaining 47 cases were reported from outside the division.
As of Sunday morning, around 967 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country. Of them, 795 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 172 were listed outside Dhaka.
According to DGHS, a total of 19,086 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery so far. The highest number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day stands at 343 patients on September 7. In September, the country recorded the highest number of dengue cases of the current year with 7,841 patients. The month saw 22 deaths.
A total of 7,698 people were diagnosed with dengue in August. Some 34 people died of dengue that month.
