Country’s tallest man dies

Zinnat Ali, the tallest man in the country, is no more. He died in Chattogram Medical College Hospital in the early morning on Tuesday. He breathed his last at about 4:00 am, said his elder brother Elias Ali.

The 24-year-old youth was undergoing treatment at the neurosurgery department of the hospital, said Dr Khurshed Anwar, an assistant register of the department.

Zinnat Ali had been suffering from a brain tumour and other complications for a long. He was admitted at the hospital on Monday and placed on life support, said Dr Khurshed Anwar. 

Zinnat was born at Barobeel village under under Gorjonia union at Ramu upazila in Cox's Bazar in 1996. Standing at 8 feet 6 inches, he was the second son of Amir Hamza and Shahpuri Begum. His height was increasing unnaturally due to a hormonal imbalance. He was also known as the world’s second tallest man.

According to family sources, Zinnat Ali’s body suddenly started to grow abnormally at the age of 12 and continued to grow further with his age.

Zinnat sought the Prime Minister’s help. Later, the Prime Minister took responsibility for his treatment. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gifted him a house when he called on the PM in 2018. In that time, he was admitted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
