Country attains unprecedented dev, growth in last 15 years

State minister for shipping tells NMI graduation parade

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that unprecedented development has taken place in the last 15 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  

“The deep sea port is being constructed at Matarbari, construction of Chittagong port's Bay-terminal will start soon.  Bangladesh has been selected as a 'C' category member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Payra port is being built, Mongla port, Chittagong port Authority (CPA) is being upgraded, all these have played vital role in fostering growth”, Minister added.

He was addressing the, Chittagong Special Batch-2023 graduation ceremony of  National Maritime Institute (NMI) on Sunday.

He mentioned that Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) procured six vessels while procurement of more vessels is underway.  Four new marine academies have been established during Sheikh Hasina's government.  Three more Marine Academies will be established and  one of the world's maritime universities 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman  Shipping Ministry Senior Secretary Md. Mostafa Kamal, Shipping Department Chief Nautical Surveyor Md. Gias Uddin Ahmed, National Maritime Institute Principal Captain Ataur Rahman spoke on the occasion. 

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail was also present.

The Minister advised trainees to hold patriotism and carry out the duties with honesty, devotion and sincerity so that the image of our country remains bright.  

A total of 177 trainees participated in the training session in this year's special batch.  Among them Deck-88, Engine-79 and Steward-10.  Some of them are SSC pass.  Others are working on casual basis on merchant ships offshore.  Some with shore repair team, some working casually or permanently in ship repair workshop/shipyard/dried.  

Some are Panama CDC holders, some are working in non-conventional vessels in the country/abroad in tug boats/supply boats/barges etc.  Some have experience as sailors on inland vessels.
