UZ chairman dies with symptoms in Madaripur

A councilor of Kabirhat municipality in Noakhali has died from coronavirus. He died in isolation at his home in Jainatpur village in Ward 1 of the municipality on Thursday.

Md. Anwar Hossain is the son of Manik Miah of Jainatpur village in Ward 1 of the municipality. Kabirhat Municipality Mayor Zahirul Haque Raihan confirmed the matter.

Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Fazlul Haque Baker Apu said that samples were collected from Anwar Hossain's body on June 3. On June 10, his corona test came positive. He died at his home on Thursday morning, a day after coronavirus was detected in his body.

Meanwhile, freedom fighter and chairman of Shibchar upazila of Madaripur Shamsuddin Khan (68) died of respiratory and heart problems. He died at a private hospital in the capital on Wednesday.

Shamsuddin Khan was a former president of Shibchar Upazila Awami League and a thana commander during the liberation war. 

Shibchar Upazila Awami League general secretary Selim said, “Upazila Chairman Shamsuddin Khan had been suffering from shortness of breath and high blood pressure for a long time. He died on Wednesday.”

Monir Hossain, nephew of Upazila Chairman Shamsuddin Khan, said, “He could not be admitted to any hospitals even after visiting several hospitals in Dhaka three days ago. He later returned home. 

However, his illness increased on Wednesday and he was finally admitted to a hospital in Dhaka. Later, he died there.”

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed grief over the sudden death of freedom fighter and former president of Shibchar Upazila Awami League Shamsuddin Khan.
