The Comilla University (CoU) authorities have taken eight steps to ensure austerity in governmental expenditure, said a press release signed by the deputy registrar Md. Amirul Haque Chowdhury on Wednesday.
The steps were taken in 72nd emergency Academic Council meeting considering the global economic context.
The eight steps are: reducing the use vehicles, switching off air conditioners in various buildings and halls, spending a maximum of 50 percent of the allocated funds for hospitality, holding various committee meetings online and taking online classes every Thursday from August 1 until further instructions.
The press release also added that the electricity and fuel expenditure will be monitored every month.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. F. M. Abdul Moyeen said that he would keep an eye on whether the decisions are being implemented properly or not.
