After sweeping through the major cities like Dhaka and Narayanganj coronavirus is now spreading to the remote, rural and char areas across the country due to lack of awareness and inadequate testing facility.
IEDCR's former Chief Scientific Officer Mushtaq Hossain said, “Now it has spread from the city areas to the villages. There are corona-infected patients in 20 to 25 percent of the villages in the country.”
However, the number of victims and deaths is still lower than other countries in the world owing to various government measures, he added.
According to our local correspondents, it was known that many areas have a good number of infected patients, but the actual number, however, could not be traced immediately because of inadequate testing facility.
Rangpur District Civil Surgeon said coronavirus has spread from Rangpur city to Upazilas, unions and villages. Some 828 people have been infected in different places of Rangpur.
The coronavirus has also spread from Tentulia in Panchagarh to Boda and Debiganj in the border region of the country. A total of 40 people have been identified in the district.
According to our Teknaf correspondent, there are about 200 corona patients in Teknaf.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manpura Upazila in Bhola district Sakhawat Hossain said over the phone to Bangladesh Post, “11 people, including a policeman, are currently infected with coronavirus on Monpura island. The policemen are coordinating with the patients.”
Noakhali's Char Aman Ullah Union Parishad Chairman Belayet Hossain told Bangladesh Post that a total of 99 people have been infected so far with the coronavirus from Noakhali's Subarnachar Upazila. Meanwhile, I have received the death news of one infected person, the UP chairman added.
“The number of total infected patients in the rural areas could not be estimated correctly, but I can say that village people have better immune system than city people as they live closer to nature,” public health expert Mainul Islam told Bangladesh Post.
Village people don't gather around like city people in the bazaar or open markets. The government should enhance the testing facility to detect and isolate corona patients in the remote areas, he concluded.
