Corona infections increasing again: WHO

Corona infections have started increasing again, according to the latest information given by the World Health Organization (WHO). The organization also said that the rate of corona infection has increased by 52 percent in the last month.

Along with that, the death rate is also increasing in the world. Some 3,000 new deaths of corona patients have been reported. The WHO has blamed a new type of corona virus or variant JN.1 for the rise in the number of corona infections.

The main concern is now JN.1, a sub-variant of Omicron — one of the most prevalent forms of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID.

According to the data provided by the WHO, from November 17 to

December 17, a total of 1 lakh 18 thousand people have been diagnosed with corona infection in the world and among them 1 thousand 600 people are seriously ill. As a percentage, infection in one month stands at 52 percent.

On Monday (December 25), a notification from the Directorate of Health Services Bangladesh informed that 11 people have been diagnosed with corona in the country in the last 24 hours. But no one died during this period. It said that 439 samples were tested with antigen tests in the last 24 hours. The detection rate is 2.51 percent per 100 samples. Yesterday this rate was 2.38 percent.

It should be noted that the Directorate of Health Services said that 20 lakh 46 thousand 218 people have been diagnosed with corona in the country so far. Among them, 29 thousand 477 people died. So far the total detection rate is 13.9 percent and the death rate is 1.44 percent.

It needs no emphasizing that the spread of corona virus cannot be controlled as long as we are not able to persuade people to follow the safety rules. Experts, however, think infections can grow if people ignore health guidelines.

Infection rates of JN.1 are increasing in many countries around the world. However, the overall risk to the public is assessed as low while existing vaccines continue to offer protection. That's the line from the World Health Organization (WHO) at the time of publication.

There is no relation between summer or winter and corona virus. But in winter, there are more traditional gatherings and social events which we need to control otherwise the infections could rise further.
