It has been alleged that a policeman named Jahangir Alam was beaten to death in Baniachang of Habiganj. The deceased policeman was working at the Markuli naval police outpost of Jahangir Alam upazila. A youth named Pulak Das (28) has been arrested for his involvement in the incident. This incident happened on Monday night. Detained Pulak Das is the son of Kir Mohan Das of Kadirganj village of Nabiganj upazila.
According to the police, the policeman named Jahangir Alam was talking to some people in a shop in Markuli Bazar at night. Pulak Das suddenly ambushed him. Constable Jahangir Alam was seriously injured. Later he was rescued and taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at midnight. Meanwhile, the attacker Pulak Das was arrested immediately after the incident.
Confirming the matter, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Baniachong Circle) Palash Ranjan De said that the arrested Pulak Das is being interrogated at the police station. It is not possible to say what caused this incident. Details will be known after the interrogation. Senior officials of the district police also visited the spot.
