A case has been filed against contractors, dredger owners and sand sellers in Kamarkhand of Sirajganj on the charges of irregularities in the excavation of Phuljor River in Sirajganj and illegal extraction and sale of sand through Bangla dredgers. Bhadraghat Union Land Assistant Officer Tarek Murshed filed a case with Kamarkhand police station on Monday (March 11) night. Dredger owner Parimal was arrested by the police in this case.
The accused in the case are Yusuf Ali (30), manager of Ayan Construction, a contractor company, Dredger owner Parimal (55), a resident of Kutirchar Paschim Para of Kamarkhand Upazila, Dredger owner Babu (52), a resident of Nalka village of Raiganj Upazila, Jhantu Sarkar (50), a sand seller of Mugbelai village of Kamarkhand Upazila), AsadulSarkar (33) and Rakib Khan (32). The police have arrested Parimal. According to the source of the case, the land of Aslam Sarkar of Mugbelai village is being filled by illegally extracting sand from the bottom of the river through the illegal Bangla dredger from the river land of RS 204 of Khas Khatian, RS 1 of Jhatibelai Mouja of Bhadraghat Union. Earlier, the land of Ghiyas Uddin Sarkar of the same village was filled with sand in the same way.
It is mentioned in the case that the amount of excavated sand was used for filling the land of Aslam Sarkar and Ghiyas Uddin Sarkar has caused a revenue loss of Rs 7 to 8 lakh to the government.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamarkhand Police Station Rezaul Islam said that Bhadraghat Union Land Assistant Officer Tarek Murshed filed a case with the police station on Monday night as a plaintiff in the case of illegally extracting sand from the bottom of the river and selling it through illegal Bangla dredgers.
Accused number two in the case Dredger owner Parimal was arrested in the night. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused.
