A cargo ship from Karachi in Pakistan has arrived at the Chittagong port in Bangladesh. This is the first time that a cargo vessel has arrived directly from Karachi to Chittagong.
The ship was carrying 370 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) of cargo in 328 box containers. The ship left Chittagong port for Indonesia the next day. The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka gave this information on Wednesday.
The High Commission said that a cargo ship directly from Karachi has arrived at the Chittagong port, marking the first direct maritime connection between the two countries. The journey highlights the growing demand for direct trade between the two countries.
This will not only accelerate the existing trade flow, but also promote new business opportunities for both sides, from small traders to large exporters. Pakistan High Commissioner to Dhaka Syed Ahmed Maruf termed the direct shipping route as a major step towards enhancing bilateral trade and business relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as a more integrated and trade network in the entire region.
Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Md. Omar Faruq said that the Panama-flagged container ship YUAN XIANG FA ZHAN arrived in Chittagong from Dubai via Karachi on Monday (November 11).
