The underground metro rail construction work will be inaugurated on Thursday.
This underground metro rail known as MRT 1 will be constructed 42 feet (Three Storied Equivalent) below the ground.
Like international standard MRT 1 will be launched with eight pairs of trains. Latest technology will be used here as well so that passengers do not face any sufferings.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Managing Director (MD) MAN Siddique gave this information while talking to reporters at the meeting room of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) at Eskaton in the capital on Tuesday.
He said, “We have started MRT Line-6 with six coaches and have left scope for adding two more coaches. That means it can be increased to eight. MRT Line-1 will start with eight coaches. There is no need to increase the number of coaches here. Like internationally, we will also start with eight coaches.
“The stations of MRT Line-6 are on the road. MRT Line-1 stations will be under the road. MRT-6 is three stories above the ground, it will be three stories below the ground. We are using the latest technology here so that the public does not suffer.
Metrorail Line-1 depot will be constructed at Pitalganj in Narayanganj district. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has contracted with Japan's Tokyo Construction Company Limited and domestic Max Infrastructure Limited for this work.
The entire project will be implemented through 12 packages. Meanwhile, the work of land development in the depot area under CP-1 in the package will start after inauguration by the Prime Minister. There are many high and low places where the depot will be constructed. The work of filling them will begin. Then the depot will be built there.
92.9725 acres of land has already been acquired for the construction of the subway. This project will be completed in 2026. The project cost has been estimated at Tk 52561.43 crore. It will be funded by the government and JICA.
