The chief coordinator of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery unit Dr Samanta Lal Sen said that the conditions of all eight people who were burnt in the fire incident in the ‘Benapole Express’ train in the Gopibagh area of the capital are critical.
Dr Sen, addressing a press conference on Saturday, said, “Eight people are admitted in the hospital. The burn percentage is not high, some sustained nine percent, some eight percent. However, the most dangerous thing is that all of them
have burnt their breathing passages.”
All eight victims are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) after being injured in a deadly fire on the Benapole Express train in Dhaka on Friday.
All the victims are in critical condition, doctors also said, “We have kept everyone under observation. All of them are in critical condition due to deadly injuries.”
“Besides, many injured are under treatment. Dr Sen added saying, “No patient is still risk-free. We cannot describe their condition safe until they go home.”
He also said that apart from the physical treatment on the burn injuries some of the victims also suffer from mental trauma. “I noticed a child so scared. Recalling the screams at the time of the fire blazing in the train compartments, some of the patients are still terrified. I really cannot say when would these trauma be over. It needs long-term treatment.”
