Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday directed the government secretaries to complete the ongoing development projects on priority basis within the shortest possible time.
“The people will get returns if the priority projects can be completed as early as possible,” she said.
The prime minister gave the directives while addressing the Secretaries Committee meeting held at her office.
She put emphasis on fast implementation of the development works within the stipulated time asking the officials to avoid undue delay.
Hasina said even the developed countries are in crisis due to Russia-Ukraine war as the world started recovering from the Corona pandemic.
She stressed the need for cutting down unnecessary expenses saying, all will have to maintain austerity as cautionary measures.
About foreign reserves in the country, the PM said, it would be possible to meet import bills for next five or six months and Bangladesh will not fall in any crisis in future.
PM Hasina, however, underscored the need for making exports diversification considering the current global crisis.
The government is developing 100 economic zones in the country and there will be foreign investment there, while opportunities of employments will be created, she said.
In this regard, she mentioned that the 4th Industrial Revolution is knocking at the door and a huge number of youths are now getting ready for employments and their potential and capability should be utilised.
Pointing out that propaganda is being spread by the vested quarters, Hasina asked the secretaries to upload latest information in the respective websites so people get to know facts from there.
She said that her Awami League government has huge success stories in different sectors, including in communication like road, rail, river routes and air ways as well as in education, health, power, food production and other sectors.
The prime minister put emphasis on maintaining the pace of the development.
Highlighting the construction of the Padma Bridge with the country’s own resources, she said this has improved connectivity among the people of south and south-western regions.
The PM said that the government has been implementing the 8th five year plan, SDG of the UN and the 2021-2041 Perspective Plan to turn Bangladesh as a developed and prosperous country.
She also asked the top bureaucrats to take precautionary measures alongside making people aware that the country would never be hit by the looming famine due to the prolonged global crisis steaming from the Coronavirus and Russia-Ukraine war.
She made a number of proposals to be implemented that include being economical in public expenditure, set priority development projects, diversify exports, attract investments, prepare skilled manpower for the fourth industrial revolution and make people aware to bring every inch of fallow lands under cultivation and exercise austerity in using electricity and gas.
She said when the world economy is reeling from the Coronavirus, the Russia-Ukraine war, sanctions and counter sanctions have created economic recession across the globe, adding that one or two countries are getting benefit of the crisis while the rest, especially the developed ones have been suffering immensely.
She mentioned that developed countries are even facing severe crises for which their economic growth and reserve money have been declining.
“Inflation has increased manifold across the globe. Our country has also been hit,” she said.
