In Noakhali's Companiganj upazila, a ninth grade student was saved from child marriage by the intervention of the upazila administration.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Samiul Islam went to the house of the student in Ward No 2 of Charhazari Union in Upazila around 1.30 pm on Wednesday and stopped the marriage.
Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ziaul Haque Mir confirmed this information. He said that Assistant Commissioner (Land) Samiul Islam rushed to the spot along with police force on Wednesday afternoon after receiving information that a child marriage was being organized in Ward No 2 of Charhazari Union. The mobile court fined the mother of the child Tk 3,000 under the Immediate Child Marriage Prohibition Act for admitting that she was marrying her daughter when officials appeared at the scene and questioned the girl's mother.
As the groom's side also admitted their guilt, they were fined Tk 10,000 under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. The police members of Companiganj Police Station assisted in conducting the mobile court drive at that time.
