Highlighting the substantial and sustainable reduction of child marriage, speakers at a discussion mentioned community engagement can be the best ways of preventing child marriage.
Collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations can resist child marriage and pregnancy as teachers, public representatives and marriage registrars can play pivotal roles to attain the cherished goal in this regard, they said.
They came up with the observation while addressing a participatory meeting with school teachers in the city discussing and devising ways and means on how to eradicate child marriage. The Association for Community Development (ACD) organised the meeting at its office conference hall in Rajshahi city on Sunday.
District Education Officer Nasir Uddin and Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon Office Dr Bayezeed-Ul Islam addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with local unit president of Bangladesh Teachers Association Mojibur Rahman in the chair.
ACD Programme Manager Monirul Islam gave an illustration on causes and consequences of child marriage and Child Marriage Prevention Law- 2017 during his concept paper presentation.
Nasir Uddin said the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to free the society from the child marriage.
He said responsive support from the community, especially local teacher, public representatives, parents and influential leaders has become indispensable to reduce the child marriage.
