The government has set up a commission to investigate harassment or ragging in residential halls in Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) and other higher education institutions. At the same time, this commission will give recommendations to the government to stop torture or ragging.
According to the order of the High Court, a notification has been issued by the Cabinet Department on Thursday (October 17) by forming a one-member commission of inquiry.
In the notification, it is said that the government, as per the writ petition number-10902/2019 of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on September 3, under the powers given in the 'The Commissions of Inquiry Act 1956', to submit an investigation report on the harassment/ragging in the residential halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and Retired Justice Md. Miftah Uddin Chowdhury to give specific recommendations to stop torture/ragging in the residential halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering and in other higher education institutions of Bangladesh.
The inquiry commission will investigate and report on the harassment/ragging that took place in the residential halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
The notification also said that it will give specific recommendations to stop harassment/ragging in the residential halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering and in other higher education institutions of Bangladesh.
It is also said that the commission will submit the investigation report to the court within the next 30 days after completing the investigation as per the 'The Commissions of Inquiry Act 1956' and as per the orders of the High Court Division.
