Comilla University (CU) reopens on June 23, after nearly two months of closure due to a conflict between the Vice-Chancellor and the Teachers' Association. Students will once again fill the campus and attend their classes.
Acting registrar Amirul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the return to academic activities. He stated that, following a decision by the university's syndicate, classes resumed as usual on Sunday. Administrative activities have already been underway since June 9.
The decision to close CU was made during the 93rd Syndicate meeting on April 30 because of the ongoing conflict. In the 95th emergency Syndicate meeting on June 5, it was decided that administrative work would start on June 9 and academic activities would resume on June 23 after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
Classes were officially suspended from June 6 to June 22, and administrative activities were paused from June 13 to June 22 for Eid-ul-Azha.
The Teachers' Association had been boycotting classes for a long time due to various demands.On June 21, acting General Secretary of the Teachers' Association, Mahmudul Hasan, announced in a press release that classes would resume.
However, the teachers will continue their movement until their demands are met. They will observe a two-hour strike from 12 noon to 2 pm each day. If their demands are not met by
July 20, they plan to resume their protests. The president of the Teachers' Association, Professor Dr. Abu Taher, said they will start in-person classes on Sunday. He also mentioned that they might take extra online classes to help students catch up.
