Saidur Rahman, a fish farmer, has made a profit by producing and marketing colored fish fry commercially in Naogaon. He has benefited more by producing colorful fish fry than other fish. Other pond owners are also starting colorful fish farming in lease ponds with the hope of profiting.
Saidur Rahman is a traditional fisherman of Naogaon. Now he is an established fish farmer due to his new project of farming colorful fish. He has started the production of naturally colored fish fry in a pond with 20 bigha of water in Sluicegate area of Nalamara Canal of Raninagar Upazila. The pond itself is naturally producing colorful fish fry from the mother fish. They have also started selling those fry to other fish farmers commercially. Excluding all costs, he made a net profit of 5 lakh taka per year from that reservoir.
When the news of the production of colorful fish fry spread, there was a great response among other fish farmers. They collected colorful fish fry from here and started colorful fish in their own pond. They said that they are getting more profit by farming this fish than other fish. These fish farmers have already felt that the demand for colored fish is more than other normal fish and from that feeling, they have become more interested in the commercial cultivation of colored fish in their ponds. Several workers have been employed to look after the fish. They are able to meet the daily expenses of their household with the wages earned in the area.
District Fisheries Officer Dr Emamul Ehsan said that the Fisheries Department is aware of Saidur Rahman's success in producing colored fish fry. Currently, there is a special demand for aquarium display along with eating colorful fish in the market. Therefore, the fisheries department is giving special encouragement in this regard. In continuation of that, he said to give all kinds of support to Saidur Rahman and others who are interested in this fish farming.
