The final round of the college and university-level debate competition, 'Amrai Sera,' took place in Rajshahi today, bringing together talented debaters from across the region. Organized by the Rajshahi station of Bangladesh Betar, the event was held at the City Bhaban conference hall, focusing on the theme "Media Plays a Vital Role in Establishing Modern Democracy and Good Governance."
The championship debate featured Bangladesh Army University of Engineering and Technology (BAUET), supporting the topic, against Rajshahi University (RU), which argued the opposing view. After a lively and thought-provoking debate, BAUET emerged as the champion, while RU secured the runner-up position. Notably, Shifat Hossain from RU was recognized as the best debater for his outstanding performance.
The event was graced by Rajshahi Division Commissioner Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, who served as the chief guest and a judge for the competition.
In his address, he highlighted the importance of debate in fostering critical thinking and civic engagement among students. BAUET Vice-Chancellor Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Muhammad Mijanuzzaman, Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Hassan Akhter, and RU Students’ Adviser Dr. Amirul Islam also attended and spoke at the event, encouraging participants to pursue knowledge and understanding of democratic principles.
Monirul Hassan, Deputy Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar, moderated the competition, ensuring smooth proceedings throughout. The winning and runner-up teams were awarded crests and certificates, celebrating their achievement. In total, 16 teams from various colleges and universities participated in the competition, showcasing the spirit of intellectual debate and collaboration among young minds in Rajshahi.
