Md Abdullah, a student of Shaheed Suhrawardy College in the capital who was shot on August 5 during the student-led mass uprising;  has lost the protracted battle for life while undergoing treatment.

Abdullah breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Thursday morning, about 100 days after he suffered bullet wounds in the head.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment police station Md Abdul Aleem confirmed the death the student.

The body was taken to his village home in Jashore after the second Namae-e-Janaza held at Central Shaheed Minar.

Shariful Islam, a computer operator at Suhrawardy College, said that first Namaz-e-Janaza of Abdullah was held the college campus after Asr prayers.

Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, a convener of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, said Md Abdullah has been martyred. Many members of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement took part at Namae-e-Janaza at Central Shaheed Minar after Maghrib prayers.

With Abdullah, nearly 800 people have died in the movement. The government is preparing a comprehensive list of the victims of the July-August movement. On October 30, the government tally of the deaths was 872.

Abdullah, 23, was a fourth-year student of the political science department of Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Old Dhaka.

Police sources said Abdullah shit in his forehead in front of Bangshal police station around 7:00pm on August 5, the day autocratic ruler Sheih Hasina fled the country for India.

He was lying on the road for two to three hours before he was taken first to Mitford Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

After around 2-3 hours, he was taken to Mitford Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he underwent a surgery. Abdullah was later discharged but became ill again while staying in his hometown.

He was brought to the DMCH again and was diagnosed with infection. As Abdullah’s condition further deteriorated, he was shifted to CMH on August 22.

Abdullah took an active part in the anti-quota protests, which began in July and eventually transformed into a movement that toppled the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5.

Nusrat Jahan, a member of the health sub-committee of Students Against Discrimination, told media that Abdullah was active in the student movement since the beginning.
